TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENT
PROFESSIONAL NETWORKS
Develop hands-on experience with acquisition-related projects involving external private equity firms, search funds, and businesses.
Build practical skills in financial modeling, DCF and LBO valuation, business underwriting, due diligence, and transaction analysis.
Build lasting relationships with UVA alumni, faculty advisors, and industry professionals through mentorship, technical guidance, and collaborative engagement.

INFORMATION SESSION & OUTREACH
Prospective applicants learn about VMAG's mission, organizational structure, M&A advisory projects, technical curriculum, membership expectations, and recruitment process. Information sessions also provide opportunities to ask questions and meet organization representatives.

WRITTEN APPLICATION
Candidates submit their résumé, academic background, interests, and responses evaluating motivation and analytical curiosity. Prior professional finance experience is not required. VMAG evaluates applicants on analytical potential, intellectual curiosity, initiative, professionalism, and teamwork.

ACQUISITION BOOTCAMP (INVITE ONLY)
Selected applicants participate in an introductory M&A workshop covering acquisition evaluation, business quality, valuation fundamentals, and transaction-related analytical thinking. The bootcamp introduces candidates to VMAG's analytical approach rather than assume prior experience.

SUPERDAY INTERVIEWS
Candidates participate in a structured interview process focused on analytical judgment, professionalism, and collaborative problem-solving. Success is measured by logic and evidence-based reasoning.

ANALYST CLASS & ONBOARDING
Successful applicants join VMAG’s Analyst class and begin structured technical training in accounting, valuation, and transaction analysis before participating in appropriately scoped deal-team projects.
